Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
